Mayors of Shiprock, The

From Tohatchi, New Mexico, on the Navajo Reservation, Ramona Emerson (Diné) is a filmmaker who received her degree in Media Arts from the University of New Mexico in 1997 and has worked as a professional videographer, writer, and editor. Over her thirteen-year career, Emerson has received support from the State of New Mexico, National Geographic, Sundance Institute, and the Ford Foundation.

In the town of Shiprock, New Mexico., poverty and corruption have long been a struggle and as the Navajo Nation looks for leadership, it is met with scandal. To make a change, a young group of men and women are taking back their community--led by 21-year-old Graham Beyale.

Kelly Byars is a filmmaker, sculptor, actor and teacher.

Ramona Emerson is a filmmaker originally from Tohatchi, New Mexico.

Minneapolis. The city of Mary Tyler Moore and Prince and the Revolution… and my Dad… back in the day. It had been years since I had set foot in the beautiful city: the air was great, not too cold – not too hot, great food everywhere. So after a small mishap at the Denver airport and our later then expected arrival, the team and I made our way down to the depths of Minneapolis and into an intense, information filled few days… and the most gigantic dinner I’ve had since the Jemez Feast Day!!
